• Day 26 : The spiritual wisdom

In Col. 1: 9-11, Paul prays : "Therefore we also, since the day we have heard it, pray to God for you and ask that you be filled with knowledge of His will, In all wisdom and spiritual intelligence, that you may behave in a manner worthy of the Lord, that you may be pleased with him from every point of view, that you bear fruit by all kinds of good works, that you grow in the knowledge of God, and become powerful in all respects by his glorious strength, with a view to perseverance and unfailing patience."

Paul first asks that the Colossians be filled with knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual intelligence. Paul had heard that there was a false doctrine, Gnosticism, among the Colossians. They were baited by the beauty of a knowledge that went beyond what the apostles had taught. Further on, in Col. 2: 8, he says : "Take heed that no one will make you his prey by philosophy and by vain deceit, relying on the tradition of men, on the rudiments of the world, and not on Christ. Paul knew that the Colossians were being seduced by a false 'knowledge' of spiritual things, and he therefore prays that they will be filled with knowledge of his will, which is the only true spiritual knowledge.

This spiritual wisdom has a purpose: that we will behave in a way worthy of the Lord, in order to please Him.

But let us return for a moment to the beginning of the prayer. "... that you may be filled with knowledge of his will."

How many times has it not happened to us that we sigh, saying : "Oh, that I may know the will of God on this or that subject! It is so important to know the will of God ! It is good to pray "Thy will be done here on earth as in heaven," but if we do not know what this will is, we will be unable to cooperate with God to make it happen!

The more we pray, the more we enter into the perception of God, and receive his gaze and thought on things. God always sees long term, with the end result in eternity.

Of course, we can also ask for his will in everyday things : what car to buy, what training to follow, etc., while considering that his ultimate will for us is that we know his heart, his Son Jesus, and That his glory be manifested through us. The Bible teaches us also in Proverbs 3: 6 : "Seek to know his will for all that you undertake, and it will lead you on the right path." (Sower)

Tomorrow we will continue with this wonderful prayer.

"Lord, help me to seek your wisdom and protect me from the 'wisdom of the world'. Show me the knowledge of your will! In the name of Jesus, amen !"
