A book for men

The revelation of your words enlightens, it gives intelligence to those who lack experience. Psalm 119.130

My first Bible reading was a real shock. Not only did I discover the person of God there, but above all I felt like I was reading my own life experience. In the book of Job, I found the description of the despair I went through. In the Psalms, I saw King David express to God his moods, his guilt, and ask for God's help. In the Book of Ecclesiastes, I met a man as complicated as I was, but who knew how to express his questions so much better than I could. In the New Testament, I read the testimony of men transformed by the grace of God.

These biblical writers, inspired by God, have helped give me the certainty that God knows men perfectly, and therefore that there is hope for me as well. Louis Gaussen, Reformed theologian and Swiss pastor (1790-1863), sums up well what I discovered in the Bible : “Scripture is God speaking in men - God speaking through men - God speaking. like men - God speaking for men."

Indeed, it was not for himself, but for us that God inspired the Scriptures. The Bible is the book par excellence for men ; let us read it with a straight heart, straightforward.
