A complete supply

He forgave us all our faults. Colossians 2:13

Through the cross, God liquidated the problem of guilt. He paid off the past in full : "He forgave us all our faults." (Colossians 2:13)

Through the death of Jesus in our place, he who represents us, he who bore our sins and paid the price for them, God is able to forgive each of our sinful acts, without compromising his own righteousness, since this was satisfied by the death of Christ. We need to understand that all of our past sinful acts, no matter how many or serious, were forgiven the moment we put our faith in Jesus.

Not only did God completely cleanse our past, but he also took care of our future : "He erased the act written against us which condemned us by his prescriptions, and he annulled it by nailing it to the cross." (Colossians 2:14)

"We don't have to obey the law to be righteous."

The act in question is the law of Moses. On the cross, Jesus ousted the law of Moses as a means of obtaining justice before God. As long as the law was the condition for achieving righteousness, the smallest offense made us guilty before God. But when the law was set aside, we were given the opportunity to live free from sin, because now our faith takes the place of righteousness. As Paul writes : "For Christ is the end of the law, that all who believe may receive righteousness" (Romans 10.4). Christ is the end of the law for the justification of anyone who believes : Jew or non-Jew, Catholic, Protestant, it makes no difference. It is the end of the law as a means of achieving righteousness before God. We don't have to obey the law to be righteous.

A proclamation for today

Thank you Jesus for your work on the cross. I proclaim that God has completely made clean my past, present, and future sins, because Jesus was made sin out of our iniquity, so that we may be made righteous in his righteousness. Amen.
