A daily sacrifice of recognition

Searching the Scriptures

The meat of the sacrifice of gratitude and communion will be eaten on the day it is offered ; nothing will be left until the morning. Leviticus 7:15

God had told the children of Israel that their sacrifice of thanksgiving and fellowship could not be left until the next day. The practice was to be daily. He wanted to teach them - and us - this principle : Every day we should be grateful. When we are no longer grateful, we begin to take the blessings of God, and God himself, as our due.

God knows this trait of human nature. He knows we are quick to forget. What was new and exciting ages very quickly, and loses its interest. A new car may find us enthusiastic for a while, but very quickly we can be tempted by newer models. A new style may appeal to us today, but lose its appeal tomorrow. Long-awaited books come out, but are quickly forgotten.

We even sometimes forget the times when God has miraculously answered our prayers and supplied our needs. When we are faced with difficulties and problems, we can honestly seek God, and yet then indulge in self-righteousness.

He answered our prayers, he met our needs. We can feel very close to him when we are on a spiritual peak. However, we can quickly forget these glorious moments. We very easily get caught up in our daily routine and forget about God. Our love for him grows colder and we esteem his interventions as due.

Don't let that happen to you ! Stop to think about all that he has done for you. Remember the times He has answered your prayers, guided you, and met your needs. Now offer a sacrifice of gratitude. Praise him. Worship him. Thank him. Be specific. And don't forget to cultivate an attitude of gratitude.

Listen to the voice of God

Let’s take the time to listen to what God means. Ask God how to cultivate an attitude of gratitude for who he is.

Praying is easy. Talk to God as you would your closest friend. God loves you and he can hear everything. Here is an example of a prayer : "Lord, teach me to cultivate daily gratitude and not to forget your kindness."

Praise God

To praise God is to show him our gratitude. What are your subjects of recognition today ? Take a moment to thank the Lord.

Act today

Now dig deeper into what you have received. What can you do to apply what God has told you ? Write down the concrete actions you can take.

Honor the Lord

Our route for the day ends. Let us pray together to honor our God.

"Father, I thank you for all that you have done for me ! Thank you for forgiving my sins and meeting my needs. Yours be the kingdom, the power and the glory, amen !"
