A king after the heart of God

I have found David, the son of Isaiah, a man after my heart, who will do all my wills. Acts 13:22

The spiritual decline of the people, in part attributable to their ruler, called for a king of integrity. God needed a faithful servant doing all of his will. Where to find such a man, humble, valiant, helpful, forgetting himself to take care of his subjects ? In this time of turmoil, all eyes were on a warrior. God chooses a shepherd king.

The first king mentioned in the Bible (Genesis 10:8-10), Nimrod, was a hunter who found joy in stalking his victim until he was killed. When God chose a king according to his heart, he was a shepherd, finding his joy in herding his flock, in leading them near still waters, in protecting them from predators.

If we feel rejected, if nothing in our appearance catches the eye, let us remember that God is noticing us. He has a plan for our life : a plan of love and grace, as he has for David’s life.

God wants to call you today, to give meaning and purpose to your life. David was not chosen because of his beauty or his courage, but because his heart beat in unison with that of God. His heart was humble enough to learn from his youth.
