A mother's heart

The Lord is full of tenderness and compassion. James 5:11

A (good) mother is characterized by unconditional love, self-giving, patience, listening, compassion, fidelity... It is not by chance that the name of the first mother of humanity, Eve, means "life". Not only does a mother give life, she is the soul of the home. It can instill a peaceful atmosphere that is beneficial to the whole family.

These beautiful qualities come from God who created the woman in his image, with this capacity to give life and to take care of her children with love. For God is a Father with a mother's heart.

God shows the tenderness of a mother for her baby : I have been to her like one who carries an infant against his cheeks to give him food (Hosea 11:4). He comforts as only a mother can : As a man whom his mother comforts, so will I comfort you (Isaiah 66:13). His love surpasses that of human parents : If my father and mother were to forsake me, the Lord would welcome me (Psalm 27:10).

We are not all mothers. But we can all develop these qualities of love, dedication and compassion if we belong to God. By the action of the Holy Spirit, we will thus be able, like the apostle Paul who cherished the Philippians with the tenderness of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:8), to reflect something of the heart of God.
