A new beginning

A new beginning

The people of Israel had been enslaved for several centuries under the cane of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt : God will deliver them with power. The last of the ten plagues will fall on Egypt and on the eldest son of each family. But the Israelites have a protection : the blood of a lamb must be applied to the frame of the door of their house. God said to them : "I will see the blood, and I will pass over you". They are safe from the judgment that will befall Egypt ; and they can eat the lamb that had to be sacrificed to protect them: it is the first "Passover", a word that means "to pass over" (Exodus 12), the memory of which should be celebrated each year in Israel.

A new period begins today for those who come by faith to place themselves under the protection of the blood of the Lord Jesus. In the same way that we count the years of our natural life from birth, for God our "real life" begins on the day of our "new birth". From this date, the believer is freed from the slavery of Satan and approached God, who desires to give him life "in abundance" (John 10:10).

The New Testament connects the story of the first Passover in Egypt with Christ's death on the cross, and applies it to our lives : "Christ, our Passover, has been slain. Let us therefore celebrate the feast" (1 Corinthians 5.7, 8). This new life is a "party", lived in communion and closeness with God, and the desire to please and honor him.
