A new road opens up before you !

“Then, warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they returned to their country by another way.” Matthew 2. 12

The Magi came to worship the Baby Jesus and followed the star that led them to Bethlehem. Warned by God not to return to see Herod, as he had asked them to, they took another route home. While the past year has been fraught with sorrow and disappointment, it is tempting to turn in on yourself and want to shut yourself away in what little comfort we have left. Life goes on, however, and God does not want us to remain prostrate on ourselves. He wants to see us progress, maybe take a new road that He will lead us on by His Spirit. Remember the crippled grandson of King Saul, who lived in seclusion at Lo-Debar, until one day David decided to show him kindness and invited him to come and eat at his own table henceforth. The year opens on a new road. With the grace of God you will be able to walk it. You may be apprehensive about what this New Year has in store for you : retirement, empty house, chronic illness, unemployment, lonely life without being loved. God loves to deal with people at their wit's end, unable to go further, and put them back on the path of peace, joy and victory. He knows marvelously well how to dry tears, calm anxious hearts, fill them with courage and erase the wounds of old memories. He knows how to “renew all things” (Revelation 21. 5). For “the Lord waits only for the time to be gracious to you, therefore he will rise up to show you his compassion. Indeed, the Lord is a God of equity. Happy are all those who rely on him !” (Isaiah 30:18). This new road will appear unfamiliar to you, let yourself nevertheless be led by the One who promised : “I will make the blind walk on a path which they did not know, I will lead them on paths which they did not know ; I will turn darkness into light before them, and I will straighten crooked passages. This is what I will do, and I will not forsake them” (Isaiah 42:16). Believe in His promises for the new year !
