Indeed, I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ : it is the power of God for the salvation of every man who believes, of the Jew first, but also of the non-Jew. Indeed, it is the Gospel which reveals the righteousness of God by faith and for faith, as it is written : The righteous shall live by faith. Romans 1:16, 17

He (God) demonstrates it in the present tense so as to be righteous while declaring righteous one who has faith in Jesus. Romans 3.26

“The justice of God. I hated that term because I understood it as the fact that God punishes sinners. Despite my blameless life as a monk, I felt a sinner in the sight of God; my conscience was extremely worried, violently upset. without truce this verse of the letter of the apostle Paul to the Romans : "It is the Gospel which reveals the righteousness of God" (see the verse of the day).

Finally, God took pity on me. While I was meditating night and day, and I was examining the sequence of these words : "It is the Gospel which reveals the righteousness of God by faith and for faith as it is written : The righteous shall live by the faith" (Romans 1:17), I began to understand that the righteousness of God here signifies the righteousness which God gives and by which the righteous live, if he has faith. The meaning of the sentence is therefore this : The gospel reveals to us the justice of God, the justice accomplished, by which God, in his mercy, justifies us by means of faith...

Immediately I felt myself reborn, and it seemed to me that I had entered through wide open doors into Heaven itself. From then on, the whole of Scripture took on a new aspect in my eyes. I went through the texts as my memory presented them to me, and noted other terms that had to be explained in a similar way..., the power of God by which he gives us his strength, the sage by which he gives us back. wise, salvation, the glory of God.

As much as I had hated this term of righteousness of God, so much I now cherished this so sweet word, and this passage of Paul became for me the door of the paradise."
