A responsible God !

Nehemiah 9:21 – For forty years you provided for them in the wilderness, and they lacked nothing, their clothes did not wear out, and their feet did not swell.

In this prayer, Nehemiah recalls the benefits that God gave to the Israelites in the desert. They were a rebellious people, always discontented, but who benefited from the favors of the Lord. However, there is one striking fact : they did not enter Canaan.

There is a misconception in the people of God, it is to believe that because they are blessed, they are approved ! Blessing does not prove approval. Why does God act like this then ? Because it is a God who takes responsibility. He brought the people of Israel out of Egypt because they suffered greatly. He did not forsake him, despite his rebellion, and He took care of him. Our Lord took on Himself in a way this whole nation when everything led to believe that He would deliver it to the curse.

The danger for us is to believe that because of this blessing, we will have an open door to Canaan. Only those who are approved of God will enter it. If we live anyhow, and let’s face it, selfishly enjoying this blessing, we will see the doors of “bliss” close in front of us!

Beloved, never confuse the Grace of God with the Justice of God. God is gracious, often even beyond our understanding, but when His Day is here, God is doing justice. And all those who have "benefited" from Grace without worrying about Justice will be confounded.

“Behold, as the eyes of servants are fixed on the hand of their masters, and the eyes of a maidservant on the hand of her mistress...” says Psalm 123.2. Too many of God's children stare at His mighty hand ! “Give, give, give”. is the main subject of their prayers. However, it is by fixing the gaze on His face that one is approved. It is when we marvel at His beauty and our hearts sing of His adoration that we will know a little of His heart.

In conclusion, I will say that all the blessing that Solomon enjoyed did not prevent him from going to serve other gods. It is a solemn call, do not hide behind the blessing to believe that you are approved ! Do not attach yourself to the gifts but look at the splendor of the Giver ! This is how you will be able to enter your Canaan, land flowing with milk and honey !
