A safe protection

"I am with you every day until the end of the century." Matthew 28. 20

Can there be a more encouraging message for the child of God than these words that end the gospel of Matthew ? They are not addressed only to the disciples or faithful of the time of Jesus, or to a particular elite, but to all those who, over the ages, "invoke the Lord with a pure heart" (2 Tim. 2. 22) ; without discrimination or exception. What joy to remember that Jesus spoke these words just before ascending to heaven ! They are therefore among the last he expressed on earth before joining the Father ! A promise for his children ! His assured presence alongside each of his family is a protection, a security, a comfort.

His constant presence is indeed a powerful protection for all who wish to walk with him. To take ownership of him, it is necessary to think of him throughout the day, with his eyes fixed on the goal : "Let us run with patience the race before us, our eyes fixed on Jesus, the head of the faith, and the one who leads it to fulfillment, who, because of the joy that was before him, endured the cross, having despised shame, and sits at the right hand of the Father's throne" (Heb. 1, 2).

Many voices try to capture the attention of believers and attract them out of the way. The path of the child of God is thus strewn with dangers : a few meters from the right path are traps like self-pity, discouragement, pride, lust, self-will ... If one leaving the Lord with his eyes to go on another road, they put themselves in grave danger. Even well-intentioned friends can make us deviate if we let them occupy the place that belongs to Christ alone. The Psalmist gives a wise recommendation : "Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continually" (Psalm 105: 4). The best way to stay in the path of life is to stay focused on the Master; the perception of its presence is our best protection.

Let us follow David's example : "I seek you at daybreak, my soul thirsts for you, my flesh languishes after you, as in an altered land without water" (Psalm 63: 1).
