I even amassed silver and gold... and found that it was all just smoke and came back to chase the wind. There is no benefit to being done in the sun. Ecclesiastes 2. 8, 11
Better to me the law of your mouth than 1000 articles of gold and silver. Psalm 119. 72
A treasure for the believer
What would be the most precious treasure for you ? For many, in our materialistic society, it would be money, for others, the pleasures of life, sport, culture, travel, etc. However, everyone knows the ephemeral side of all this, of these so-called treasures !
The Bible invites us not to rely on these uncertain riches : "Do not tire yourself in acquiring wealth, do not apply your intelligence to it. Do you want to pursue it with your eyes ? Here it is ! Indeed, wealth is being made wings and, like the eagle, it takes flight to the sky"(Proverbs 23 4, 5).
But there is an unalterable treasure, its value is eternal. Perhaps you still ignore it today : Jesus is truly the Christian's treasure. It is he who reveals God to us. "No one has ever seen God ; God the Only Begotten, who is in the intimacy of the Father, is the one who made him known" (John 1.18). He came, he, a perfect man, to deliver humanity, by giving his life on the cross : he was "given because of our faults and who was raised because of our justification" (Romans 4:25). What a privilege to know God's gift of grace, eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23). Before leaving his disciples, Jesus said : “Believe in God, believe in me also. There are many mansions in my Father's house. If that was not the case I would have told you. Prepare a place for you. And since I am going to prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you with me so that, where I am, you may also be there" (John 14. 1-3).
