A voice arrival from sky !

"Thus shall my word come forth from my mouth : it shall not return to me without effect, but shall fulfill what I have sent it for." Isaiah 55.11

The evangelist Spurgeon, invited to preach at the "Crystal Palace" in London, wanted to make sure that his voice would be strong enough for this immense hall. He decided to try it out and went the day before with a friend who sat in the last row. From the top of the stage, Spurgeon uttered in a loud voice this quotation from Scripture :

"This word is certain and fully worthy to be received, that Christ came into the world to save sinners." 1 Timothy 1.15

Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.

He repeated the same verse, this time without forcing his voice. The friend beckoned to him that the acoustics were good and he went home reassured.

Twenty-five years later, a very sick man asked to see a pastor and he came to see Spurgeon.

"Are you ready to face death ?" asked the evangelist.

"Yes, thank God," replied the dying man.

- Tell me. How did you find the salvation of your soul ?

- In an extraordinary way ! As a plumber, I had a repair to make, twenty-five years ago, under the dome of the Crystal Palace. At that time, I lived without God. Suddenly I heard twice a voice from heaven saying,

"This word is certain that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners." These words reached my conscience and my heart with such force that on the very day I turned to the Lord Jesus.

A prayer for today

Lord, teach us also to discern your voice when we hear it so that it touches our hearts and let us know your plan for our lives. Amen.
