A white horse !

“Then I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse appeared… He has upon his garment… a name written: King of kings and Lord of lords.” Revelation 19. 11.16

Before the declaration of independence in 1948, the State of Israel was a British protectorate which maintained troops intended to guarantee the peace of the region, under the command of General Gordon. Stuart Briscoe relates that the day General Gordon arrived in Jerusalem he rode a white horse. But, once in front of one of the gates of the citadel, he dismounted his horse and walked into Jerusalem, explaining that the only person worthy to pass through the gate on a white horse was the “King of kings and Lord of lords”, in other words Jesus, the Risen One, the King of Glory, the One whom John saw during his vision on the Isle of Patmos. John had already identified Him as “the Word, which was with God, which was God” (John 1:1-2). It was no longer the “sweet” Jesus on whose shoulder the disciple had often laid his head, but the King-soldier, triumphant over all His enemies, the conqueror come to take back in hand the Kingdom which belongs to Him and judge those who did not want to recognize Him, the “Faithful and True, who judges and makes war with justice” (v. 11). This vision-prophecy about the end of time teaches us that one day Jesus will return to judge the world and that then “every knee will bend before Him” (Romans 14:11-12). Note also that He wears a garment that may seem strange at first sight : “it is soaked in blood”. It is to remind us that our salvation was purchased at the cost of His blood which shed on the Cross. His first coming was marked by His sacrifice, which washed away our sins, His second coming will be the sign of judgment for those who have not recognized Him as their Savior and Master. Which side will you be on ?
