A word has been planted in you...

“Receive with meekness the word which has been planted in you and which can save your soul.” James 1. 21

The Word that has been “planted” in us is self-sufficient. It doesn't need to be endorsed by men or stamped by any organization! As Jesus approached His disciples walking on the raging waves, Peter cried out : “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to you on the water” (Matthew 14:28). Jesus only answered one word : “Come !” And Peter walked towards Him walking on the waves. Was he scared ? Wouldn't you have been ? But his desire got the better of his fear! Likewise, to get started, your desire to obey God and to know Him more intimately must be stronger than your doubts and fears. The other disciples probably did not believe that Peter was able to walk on the waves. Those who feared for his life did not want him to try the experiment and those who felt in competition with him especially did not want to see him succeed ! In truth none of the disciples understood who was speaking to Peter at that time, for they thought that Jesus "was a ghost" ! (Mark 6.49). A lesson for us emerges from this anecdote : If God “plants” a word in you and if you accept it and act on it, do not expect others to approve and support it. Your wish for some people close to you to accept your vision and be confident in what you want to do is quite normal. But with this verse God wants to prepare you for disagreements that will arise between you and those who do not understand what God has told you. If you are not careful, the opinions of others will bypass your faith and even make you doubt the words of the Lord. God is telling you, “I do not have to confirm with other people what I have already told you. In fact, I don't even need them to agree with what I said about you." Relax, trust Him ! You may want their support, but the truth is you absolutely don't need it.
