A world without love !

2 Timothy 3.2 and 3 - For men will be... insensitive.

We are in the series of “a” which in Greek means: absence of. The word "astorgos" can be translated as : without natural affection, asocial, insensitive, without tenderness, ruthless or cruel. Here the word is contrasted with an emotional feeling that should normally be found in humans. Paul agrees with the words of the Lord Jesus : "Evil will spread to such an extent that the love of many people will grow cold" (Matthew 24.12).

The news is full of examples of news items that demonstrate the truth of this prophecy. The world is going from bad to worse and sinking deeper and deeper into a lack of love ! Even where we would think to find it, there is nothing but coldness and cruelty.

Unfortunately this phenomenon is found in the Church and in many Christian homes ! How many are still sensitive to what is going on around them ? How many can see unbearable images without wagging their eyebrows ? How many can see the misery and walk their way like the priest and the Levite in the parable of the Good Samaritan ? How many can display "their blessings" without being moved by the sufferings of their brothers and sisters ? I am not judging, I am just making an observation !

“Have in yourselves the feelings which were in Jesus Christ” Paul tells us (Philippians 2.5). Did He not set an example of a committed, compassionate and sensitive God ? Has he never been moved by difficult situations ? Has He never cried ? Has He never exteriorized his feelings, whether happy or sad ? The Lord Jesus showed us the way : “Love one another as I have loved you” (John 13.34).

Beloved, if God's people do not show His love, who will ? I am not talking about sentimentality which is of no use but about genuine compassion which takes us out of our comfort zone. All you have to do is open your eyes and you will see that today it is quite possible for you to bring the love that God has shown to you, to one of his creatures !
