Accepting to be loved changes our destiny
Search the Scriptures
Jesus looked at him with love and said to him : “You lack one thing, go sell everything you have and give the money to the poor, then you will have riches in heaven ; then come and follow me”. Mark 10.21
The man, on whom the gaze of Jesus has just fallen, is in search of answers on eternal life.
The gaze of Jesus is accompanied by a deep feeling of love.
Does Jesus like the eagerness of this man, his search for the true life... ?
Does Jesus perceive the dominance that money has over this man, and does he love him with sincere and deep compassion, realizing that the snare of wealth will lead him away from a destiny glorious ?
It is difficult for us to say precisely, but who cares !
The gaze of Jesus is absent of judgement, harshness, severity, it is a gaze filled with love. It seems to me that it contains the expectation of a love in return and the call addressed to this man, so that his love for God goes beyond the observance of precepts. Until then, this man's love for God was reflected in doing. The gaze of Jesus invites him to abandon "doing" to enter into "being" : be my disciple, follow me !
But now, this man will make the sad choice not to respond to the love of the Lord.
This man is the opposite of Count Zinzendorf, who was born in 1700 into the opulence of a noble family. While visiting a museum, his eyes fell on a painting that depicted Christ suffering under the crown of thorns. There was an inscription under the painting : "All this I did out of love for you. And you, what are you doing for me ?" This painting overwhelmed the Count. He entered into a glorious destiny by founding a missionary society, which brought the Gospel to the four corners of the Earth.
Listen the voice of God
Let's take the time to listen to what God wants to say. Do you need to be moved by the love of God ?
Praying is simple. Speak to God as you would your closest friend. God loves you and he can hear everything. Here is an example of a prayer : "Lord, thank you for your look of love on my life, it pushes me to enter my destiny in your service !"
Praise God
Do you know that the spiritual gaze of Jesus is permanently placed on you ? You can bless him with your words right now.
Act today
How can this certainty of Jesus' gaze on you impact your life ? You are no longer alone and unloved. Note the attitude changes you can make right now.
Honor the Lord
Our journey for the day ends. Let us pray together to honor our God.
"Lord, thank you for your gaze filled with love towards me. To you be the reign, the power and the glory, amen !"
