Accompany the servants of God

If Timothy arrives, see that he is fearless among you, for he works in the work of the Lord just like me. Let no one despise him. Help him to continue his journey in peace. 1 Corinthians 16:10, 11

Helping Zenas, the expert of the law, and Apollos eagerly on their journey, so that they do not miss a thing. Titus 3:13

Many reasons could be given at the time to justify accompanying the servants of God. As the roads were not always safe, this was one manifestation of brotherly love. Another reason was the need for two or three witnesses to confirm the testimony given. There was also spiritual accompaniment, which is expressed in prayer. In relation to these different reasons, here are some accompanying examples from the book of Acts :

- When Pierre goes to Corneille's, six brothers from Joppa accompany him. Peter wants witnesses for this historic moment when God is bringing those who are not Jews into the Church (Acts. 10).

- When Paul and Barnabas go up to Jerusalem, they are accompanied by a delegation, and the congregation of Antioch provides for their journey and prays for them (Acts. 15).

- When Barnabas and Saul left, the brothers did not let them go without having prayed with them and for them (Acts. 13).

- In Berea, when the situation becomes dangerous for Paul, the brothers courageously and without delay take steps to thwart the plans of his enemies: brothers in charge of escorting him bring him to Athens (Acts 17:10-15 ).

- In accompanying Paul to the ship at Miletus, the elders of Ephesus showed him their affection with great emotion, so that Paul had to tear himself from their arms (Acts 20: 36-38 ; 21: 1).

The apostle John also bears witness about Gaius whose love for the brethren was known to all. He then told him to "accompany them in a manner worthy of God" (3 John 6). It is also materially providing for their trip in a way that pleases God.

Let us support the servants of God with donations according to our possibilities. Let us help them by making our time available to them. Let’s keep in touch with them through the means of communication we have today. And above all, let's pray for them. This each and every assembly can do !
