Act with Faith

"For the righteousness of God is revealed by faith and faith, as it is written : The righteous shall live by faith." Romans 1.17

For the vast majority of Romans, the notion of "faith" meant nothing. As theologian Philip Freeman points out : "What a person believed ... was irrelevant. There was no creed or profession of faith - what counted was the acts a person performed for his gods." The important thing was to satisfy their gods.

Now Paul reminds us that faith must be the cornerstone of our lives.

But Paul knew that faith is a foundation of Christianity and he endeavored to teach this principle in his Epistle to the Romans. In fact, this letter abounds in references to faith.

In the first chapter, Paul speaks of "the obedience of faith" (Rom. 1:12) and affirms that "the righteousness of God is revealed by faith and faith."

Paul goes on to state that "man is justified by faith without the works of the law" (Romans 12: 3).

Our world is populated by men and women who think only of material things. For whom faith appears a senseless notion. Who encourage us to seek temporary pleasures and secular rewards. Now Paul reminds us that faith must be the cornerstone of our lives.

Be sure to walk by faith (Heb. 11: 6). May faith be the driving force behind everything you do. Act with faith.

A prayer for today

Father, help me to walk by faith. I believe you are with me and that nothing is impossible with you. I trust you completely. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
