"Behold, my servant ... shall be exalted and exalted, and set high. As many were stupefied at seeing you - so much more was his face defeated than that of any man, and its form more than that of any son of man - so it will start with astonishment many nations ; Kings will close their mouths when they see it; For they shall see what was not told to them. "Isaiah 52: 13-15

 
These verses are an introduction to Isaiah chapter 53, which speaks of the Messiah, the perfect servant of God. They announce the effect that Jesus will produce, on the one hand on those who will see him during his ministry and on the other hand on the witnesses of his glory during his reign of a thousand years when "all eyes will see" 1.7).
Most of the men who met him were astounded to see this marked face, this body harassed with fatigue by the steps, the vigils ... then finally crucified. No, this man could not be the Messiah, he could not be a son of David, much less the Son of God ! How few have been able to distinguish, behind the tired traits of Jesus, who is "more beautiful than the sons of men" (Psalm 45: 2). How few have understood "the words of grace that came out of his mouth" (Luke 4:22), discern his love-filled gaze (Mark 10:21), but also his authority (John 7:46) and his Anger when his Father was outraged (Matthew 21:12).
Soon, however, a still greater stupor will render mute those who will see him appear in his glory. They will be as struck by the thunder (literal meaning of the French word "astonishment"). Jesus, the oppressed, the afflicted, the one for whom men had formerly had no esteem, will radiate all the splendor of his beauty.
The phrase "many were astounded" refers to the past, especially to the Jews who rejected the Lord. On the other hand, "nations" and "kings" are those who are not directly responsible for the rejection of the Gospel and Jesus, and will be present at his advent in glory on earth. And US ?
We have not seen it with our eyes ; But we know it by the revelation of the Bible and by the action of the Holy Spirit, we love it ! We believe in him without seeing him yet, and are filled with glorious joy that no word can express (1 Pet. 1: 8).
