Amazing things (1)

Saturday May 29, 2021

All were struck by the greatness of God. While everyone marveled at all that Jesus was doing, he said to his disciples : As for you, listen carefully to this : The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of men. Luke 9.43, 44

Amazing things (1)

The Gospels repeatedly reveal to us the wonder of those who came into contact with Jesus. Soon after his birth, his parents were amazed that Simeon said about him : "My eyes have seen your salvation" (Luke 2:30), while he held the little child in his arms. At 12 years old, Jesus listened to and questioned temple masters about the Law. They were amazed at his intelligence and his responses.

As an adult, he cast out demons and healed many people from various illnesses. "The crowd was amazed to see the dumb speaking, the crippled being healed, the lame walking, the blind seeing" (Matthew 15. 31). All his opponents have had their mouths shut. "They could not find fault with what he said to the people : astonished at his answer, they kept silent" (Luke 20, 26). Unjustly condemned and crucified, he died with a loud cry, which is impossible during the torture of the crucifixion. The Roman officer and those who watched over Jesus were seized with great fear : "This man was truly the Son of God" (Matthew 27.54).

Death couldn't hold him back. He was resurrected, thus demonstrating that he is the Son of God. The disciples, who had heard Jesus speak to them of his death and resurrection, are nevertheless astonished to see him alive, risen (Luke 24, 40, 41).

Everything shows us the divinity and the greatness of the one who sacrificed his life to save us. Our happiness is to believe it and to love it.
