Ambition

One can define ambition as a great desire to obtain that which can flatter self-esteem. It is a well-known engine in the world of work and society. Make no mistake, this is not a Christian virtue ! Charles Spurgeon, a famous English preacher, said that for a Christian ambition is an anomaly. The pursuit of success makes you covet what we don't have, leads to jealousy and selfishness, closes the heart to compassion. It makes us forget God and binds us to the world and to what it can offer.

We must of course, work conscientiously, "as for the Lord". But what are our priorities ? Do we get so absorbed in our activities that we neglect our family, our friends, our time with the Lord Jesus ? This is not what he wants. On the contrary, he wants us to discover all his treasures by means of his Word : the immense riches of his grace, his glory, what he is, what he has done, what he wants to give us for the present. and for the future. Our greatest wish, our "ambition" as Christians, should be to seek to know better his will revealed in the Bible, to please him, to honor him in all our life and to serve him. Let us concentrate our efforts, not on improving our comfort, but on living for Christ, for his Church, and for the gospel. Let's make the right choices, don't waste our time on earth for what is unnecessary !
