An anchor for your soul

In praying with faith, King David has grasped this truth : "Let not the floods flood me any more, let not the deep abyss me, and let not the pit be shut on me." (Psalms 69:15 ). It is not unusual, even for people closest to God, to face problems that rise like tumultuous waves. And, like David, we can be immersed in the Word of God, faithful in prayer and devoted to the Lord, and yet we feel overwhelmed by waves of fear.

Contemplating the greatness of our God is an anchor for our souls. This can build our faith, in this hour when many people feel overwhelmed by fear. I am convinced that the Church needs only one thing at this moment : an ever greater revelation of the greatness of God. So many anxious people around the world are turning to false gods in the midst of their overflowing fears. But the disciples of Jesus must remember the power and greatness of the one true God.

In a book we have published, called Triumph Through Tragedy, Christians witness God's help during their most difficult trials. In each case, they found hope in the revelation of God's greatness.

These testimonies clearly state that, during every river that strikes us or every affliction, God's people must make choices. And our first choice in the face of great hardship is to gird ourselves with faith - to trust in Heavenly Father, no matter what lies ahead.

All those who contributed their story to this book Triumph through the tragedy testify to the choice they had to make. And when they chose faith, God gave them renewed intimacy with Jesus. But this only happened when their painful ordeal was at its peak. David testifies of this most terrible time : "When an unhappy man shouts, the LORD hears, and He saves him from all his troubles" (Psalms 34: 6). We must be firmly convinced of His power and greatness in our favor.
