An anchor for your soul

An anchor for your soul

This is why God, wanting to show even more clearly to the heirs of the promise the irrevocable nature of his decision, intervened by an oath. Thus, by two irrevocable acts in which it is impossible for God to lie, we are powerfully encouraged, we whose only refuge has been to seize the hope that was offered to us. We have this hope as a solid and sure anchor of the soul. Hebrews 6:17-19.

The world is constantly changing and often in turmoil. Many of those who confide in this life have been unsettled. The world economy has been severely shaken. Governments and politicians have fumbled for solutions. Everywhere, we wondered what to do.

If we are not careful, this volatile and uncertain environment can affect our hearts and minds. Yes, governments can change. Men can disappoint us. Political systems can be more or less effective. We may be faced with problems and difficulties.

Many, even among Christians, have given in to discouragement and worry, fear and feelings of insecurity. At such times, it is important to remember that no matter what happens in the world, God never changes. His plans are set and immutable. Its character is invariable. We can always hope in him!

"Whatever happens in the world, God never changes."

We must "seize the hope that was offered to us." This hope in the providence of God is not a vague promise, but "an anchor of the soul, sure and solid". We can count on it. We can hope in him because "it is impossible for God to lie".

Proclaim today that God's promises are true in your life. Remember that "hope does not deceive, because the love of God is poured out into our hearts by the Holy Spirit who has been given to us." (Romans 5.5)

Don't despair, don't give up. In a world of change, you can entrust your life to God. He will give you a hope that will be an anchor for your soul.

A prayer for today

Father, I place my hope in you. Unload me from my burdens and give me your peace. Thank you because you never change and your Word is true. I believe in you. Amen.
