An elephant walking on water !

Luke 2.11 - ... today in the city of David a Savior has been born to you, who is Christ the Lord.

The story is told of a young king of Thailand, two or three centuries ago, who liked to hear a European talk about his country. At that time there was no television, no internet and this man explained the particularities of his country so well. He talked about windmills, canals, very special boats... The king took great pleasure in it.

One day, our Dutchman told him that in winter the canals freeze and there forms on the surface such a layer of ice that an elephant could walk on water. It was too much, the young king could not conceive that : an elephant walking on water. He accused his host of a liar, his stories being pure fantasies.

Today Christmas, I should say the birth of our Lord Jesus, has become a tale where fir trees, garlands and Santa Claus are intertwined. A little baby in a manger is fine, but the Creator of the universe becoming man to save this humanity is, to many, pure fantasy. However, this day carries a marvelous message, full of hope and joy. A Savior has been born to us. The one who can save this world from perdition and who can reconcile it with God : it's as true as an elephant can walk on water in Holland in winter !

On these feast days, let us have a grateful thought for Jesus, Son of God, Savior of humanity.
