I will give you a new heart. Ezekiel 36.26

An imperative necessity

We are sometimes asked the question : If God is all-powerful, why did he leave evil on earth ?

There were only two ways for him to eradicate it :

– Or suppress the human race. That's what he first decided. The Lord saw that the wickedness of men was great. He repented of having made man on earth. He said : I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth (Genesis 6:5-7). It was the flood.

– Either transform the corrupted heart of his creatures by giving them a new heart. This is what he finally decided by leaving life to Noah and his family, unable to bring himself to make all humanity disappear. Noah had found favor in his eyes, being considered a just and upright man.

But the root of the evil being hereditary, sin was not long in reappearing, contaminating again all the human race. The law of God given to Moses to lead his people did not remedy the situation.

However, God, who is holy and loving, wanted to accomplish his plan of salvation by changing the hearts of all who repent and believe in Jesus Christ, his Son. In the New Testament the apostle John writes : If we acknowledge our sins, [God] is faithful and trustworthy: he will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

Dear reader, have you received this new heart from God ?
