An open career !
Hebrews 12.1 - Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, cast off all burdens, and the sin which envelops us so easily, and run with perseverance in the career which is open to us.
Yesterday I told you about the locking up of the disciples for fear of the Jews. Fear causes humans to hide, and you may know the expression "hiding in a mouse hole" because we feel embarrassment or shame. However, our verse encourages us to reject this attitude by taking the example of the “heroes” of faith described in Hebrews 11.
What I realized recently is that the sin that envelops us so easily is not always OUR sin ! Of course we know that a lie leads to another lie, one joint another joint, one unhealthy thought another... it is a spiral that draws us down and locks us in more and more, like a snake that suffocates its prey. But we can also be "locked up" by the sin of others : anger, threats, violence, intimidation, guilt, denigration, slander and backbiting... These sins lock us in, paralyze us with fear , torment us, oppress us, lock us up as under an enormous mass, a burden too heavy to bear that crushes us.
The message announced by the Lord Jesus is a message of liberation. From the beginning of his ministry, He took up the words of the prophet Isaiah : "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me... To proclaim deliverance to the captives" (Luke 4:18). Isaiah will say again that he is established to say to the captives, “Come out ! To those in the hidden places (this is what the term "darkness" means), come to light !" (Isaiah 49.9).
My beloved, whether we are locked up by our own sin or because we are victims of others, the Word tells us with force : "Let us reject this burden, let us reject this oppressive envelope and the Lord will come to visit us in the very bosom of our" hole" !". Our destiny is to run, run in an open career, OPEN !
Good reflection.
