My eyes are worn with pain ; every day, I call on you, Lord, I reach out my hands to you. Psalm 88. 10 Segond Version 21
When I called you, you answered me, you encouraged me, you strengthened me. Psalm 138. 3 Segond Version 21
Angry with God
Fabrice and Marie had a little girl. She died at 18 months. Since then, the void has been there, deep in their hearts, impossible to fill. Every day they fight to overcome this pain. How to believe that there is a God when we have lived such suffering ? Even if we start to think that maybe God exists, how not to be angry with him, after such a tragic loss ?
Even if we have not experienced such a drama, it may have happened to us, even to us believers, to be angry with God.
I who am a believer, this has already happened to me. I had prayed for something. I was convinced that God had promised to give it to me. I had faith in him, in his power... and all of a sudden, everything fell apart. So I blamed God. Why hadn't he answered my prayers ? Why didn't he want to make me happy ?
It was necessary that, in my suffering, I accept that my vision of happiness was not that of God. The way I imagined a happy life was limited, partial. There was an invisible, eternal realm in which love and joy took on new meaning with God. As if the love and joy that I had known so far, and was suddenly denied to me, were just a sample of a much greater love and joy. My anger subsided, and I saw the hand of God that had hurt me was a hand of love, the hand of a God that loved me more than I could imagine.
