Apologies, more apologies - Proposed reading : Luke 14. 16-24

Monday August 16, 2021

Jesus answered him, A man organized a great feast and invited many people. At the time of the feast he sent his servant to say to the guests, Come, for everything is already ready. But all without exception began to apologize. Luke 14. 16-18

Apologies, more apologies - Proposed reading : Luke 14. 16-24

A large banquet is offered that evening, but each of the guests apologizes for not coming.

The first one said : "I bought and I have to go see it, excuse me, please" The purchase is already concluded, is it urgent to go and see it ?

The second says : "I bought five pairs of oxen and I will try them, excuse me, please." Is it necessary to test, at the end of the day, the ten oxen that he has just taken ? to buy ?

The third one says : "I just got married, that's why I can't come". The reason given seems valid ; yet he and his wife could have answered the invitation together this festive evening !

This is our attitude when good, work or emotional life takes precedence over the call of God. All politely claim that they don't have time. In fact, they don't want to come because their priorities are elsewhere!

The greatest invitation given to everyone is that of the gospel, to receive the forgiveness of their sins and eternal life. The Lord Jesus came to seek and save those who were lost. He kindly invites each of us, but he does not force anyone. Who will respond to this invitation ?

Letting fortune, work, family and social life take up all of our time would be a serious mistake. If we involve the Lord in all our thoughts and decisions, we will find time for him. Do not look for excuses... which are not !
