Are you downed ?

"The joyful heart cheers the face, but by the grief of the heart the spirit is slain" ... "The spirit of a man supports his infirmity ; But the downcast spirit, who will bear it ?" Proverbs 15: 13; 18. 14

"We do not have a high priest incapable of sympathizing with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in all things in a similar way to us, apart from sin. Let us therefore approach with confidence the throne of grace." Hebrews 4:15, 16

By the Bible we know that many believers have experienced crying, dejection and sometimes despair.

Among them, we find Anne, Samuel's mother: her sterility was causing her great distress. She was mocking. She cried and did not eat. And she went up year after year to the house of the LORD to worship (1 Sam. 1). "Bitterness in the soul," she implored God.

The prophet Elijah had many times experienced the goodness and power of God. But he let himself be defeated until he demanded death for his soul (1 Kings 19).

A whole book shows us the thoughts, the reasonings, the feelings of Job, when he went through exceptional trials. Jeremiah was a very sensitive man. He had received from God the mission of announcing the terrible judgments which were to fall upon the people. He knew the prison, the famine in besieged Jerusalem, the dwelling in a mud pit, and also the opposition of all, beginning with that of the princes of the people. After the destruction of Jerusalem, he was even forced to accompany the survivors of Judah to Egypt. Often, in his moments of dejection, he moaned and regretted the day of his birth.

Maybe you have reason to be shot down ? These examples remind you that great servants of God have gone through the same path as you. So do not be guilty of the sadness that has invaded your heart, but rather re-read this verse : "I live in the high and holy place, and with the slain and with a contrite spirit, to revive the spirit of Those who are contrite, and to revive the hearts of those who are slain"(Isaiah 57:15).

Look up to the throne of grace where Jesus, our high priest, is. He sympathizes perfectly with you, he who has suffered so much here and loves you as no one can do it.
