Are you envious ? (3)

“Seek first the kingdom and righteousness of God, and all this will be given to you besides.” Matthew 6:33

Be careful what you implore God to grant you, because one day you may hate what you want to achieve today ! Listen : "The Lord will give you meat and you will eat it... until it comes out of your nostrils and you are loathed with it..." (Numbers 11. 18-20). God was tired of listening to these people's complaints, for they were never satisfied with what He gave them ; they always imagined that something else would make them happy, outside of His presence. So He gave them so much meat that they were sick. David commented : “He gave them what they asked for and then sent wasting away into their bodies” (Psalm 106.15). You can be satisfied with very little as long as you enjoy the presence of the Lord. On the other hand, your best successes may quickly leave a bitter taste lingering in your mouth. What are you dreaming of ? What is the center of your life ? What do you keep asking God for ? Nothing other than Him is essential in your life. Nothing is supposed to take Its place in your heart. When we desire something as if it is essential to our well-being, and we beg Him to grant it to us, we are actually asking Him to place in the depths of our hearts, in His place, something that we consider it more important than Him ! Our madness risks having dire consequences. Do not wait for the last moments of your life to contemplate, your eyes full of regret, the image of your destroyed marriage, of your withered conscience, of your dispersed family and especially the film of your wasted life for not wanting to follow God's will. Certainly we want God in our lives, but also a flourishing career, a happy marriage, a beautiful country house or any other desire of our heart ! But when are we finally going to say : "All I want in my life is You alone Lord" ?
