Ask, seek, knock

(Jesus said) : Ask and it will be given to you ; seek and you will find ; knock and it will be opened to you. Indeed, everyone who asks receives, the one who seeks finds and we open to the one who knocks. Matthew 7. 7, 8

Ask, seek, knock

With these three concrete indications, Jesus encourages us to pray. All prayers are not the same : sometimes we ask, sometimes we seek and sometimes our prayers are a knock on the door of heaven.

- "Ask and it will be given to you" : God grants many things to all humans ; thus, "he makes his sun rise on the wicked and on the good" (Matthew 5:45). But God also gives gifts in response to requests. However, we sometimes ask, without receiving an answer. God asks us to wait...

- "Seek and you will find" : The absence of an answer does not eliminate our needs. Should we resign ourselves ? No, because the Lord tells us : "seek", and that sometimes requires a prolonged research. We must understand the will of God, and he wants to reveal it to us.

- "Knock and it will be opened to you" : Whoever knocks on the door is not satisfied with a closed door : he hopes that the person behind will open it. Jesus assures us that, at our insistence, the door will be opened, communication will be established.

The apostle Paul asked three times to be delivered from a handicap in his service. Twice he had no answer; but finally, the door opened and the Lord said to him : "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is fulfilled in weakness" (2 Corinthians 12.9).

Let us pray tirelessly until God answers us ; he will do it one way or another, always with love and wisdom.
