Assistance for person in danger

"I pray thee, father, to send Lazarus to my father's house, for I have five brethren : let them warn them solemnly, that they too may not come into this place of torment." Luke 16. 27, 28

"Any person who by his immediate action, without risk to himself or others, is either a crime or an offense against the bodily integrity of the person voluntarily refrains from doing so shall be punished by five years' imprisonment and 75,000 euros fine. Anyone who voluntarily refrains from carrying to a person in peril the assistance which, without risk to himself or others, he could lend to him by his personal action or by causing assistance, shall be punished with the same penalties."

This is Article 223-6 of the French Penal Code, which says : "no assistance to anyone in danger".

This section of the law challenges the believer : Does he not often face people who are in danger ? A danger of life lost ! and there is the possibility and even obligation of assistance, for if God does not punish like a tribunal, he nevertheless asks for immediate action.

The man who speaks in the verse of the day asks for his five brothers; for him it is too late because he is already in a "place of torment" (v. 28); he allowed time to come to Jesus and he can not return to his earthly life to carry the least assistance to his people. He then asked for the assistance of poor Lazarus, whom he had so despised during his life : "Send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in the water, and cool my tongue." For that too it is too late !

God asks each of his children to be a "wake-up caller" to warn men of the dangers of a life without God and show them how to avoid these dangers. Let each one take as his motto : "Lord, I stand on the tower all day, and I am at my post every night" (Is 21. 8, NEG).

To be an effective warning pitcher, I make sure to inform people exposed to the tragic consequences of sin; one day the Lord will ask me what I have done for him. So let us help those who are in danger of judgment around us, let us talk about ourselves about who alone can save men, proclaim his grace and free salvation.
