He (the Lord) shows patience with us. 2 Peter 3.9

On June 30, 1908, a meteorite fell at a speed of 65 kilometers per second and crashed in broad daylight on a plateau in northern Siberia, near the Yenissei River.

Seventy-five kilometers away, the town of Vanorava suffered such a commotion that it caused violent fires. 600 kilometers from there, the Trans-Siberian stopped its course because of the terrible crash heard in a radius of a thousand kilometers. At the spot where the meteorite crashed, a column of fire rose more than ten kilometers away. All the trees and vegetation were razed over fifty kilometers and the region became a veritable desert. Fortunately the small population in these regions was spared.

Scientists at the time estimated that if it had fallen on London, the entire city would have been destroyed.

This apocalyptic scene is reminiscent of the words of the apostle Peter : The day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. On that day, the sky will disappear with a crash, the fiery elements will disintegrate and the earth with its works that it contains will be burned. (2 Peter 3:10). If some think it will never happen, know that the Lord is not slow in fulfilling the promise, as some think ; on the contrary, he shows patience with us, wanting that none should perish but that all come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).
