At the service of others

Searching the Scriptures

Serve them with good will, as if you were serving the Lord and not men. Ephesians 6.7

American opera singer Marian Anderson was asked what was the most defining moment of her life.

She could have answered that it was the private concert she had given at the White House for President Roosevelt or her recital for the English royal family. Instead, she surprised the reporter by saying : "This is the one I came home to and was able to tell my mom that she would never need to do laundry again."

We are all naturally selfish and think about our own interests first. This is why we must allow ourselves to be transformed by the renewal of intelligence (Romans 12.2).

Psychologists speak of innate and learned behavior. Are you pessimistic by nature, learn optimism. Are you fearful by nature, learn courage. Are you selfish, learn generosity.

God wants us to look for opportunities to bless others throughout our lives. In Galatians 6:10, it is written : "So then, while we have the opportunity, let us do good to all, and especially to the brothers in the faith."

Not only must it be done to others, but also to God through them, "and not only before their eyes, as beings eager to please men, but obey as servants of Christ who do with all their hearts the will of God. Serve them with good will as if you were serving the Lord and not men, knowing that everyone, slave or free, will receive from the Lord according to the good he himself has done" (Ephesians 6: 6-8).

In short, what you do to others, God will do for you !

Listen to the voice of God

Let's take the time to listen to what God means. Who is God calling you to serve today ?

Praying is easy. Talk to God as you would your closest friend. God loves you and he can hear everything. Here is an example prayer : "Lord, help me be sensitive to your voice to encourage those who need help. I want to impact a life today."

Praise God

To praise God is to show him our gratitude. Today, what are your subjects of recognition ? Take a moment to thank the Lord.

Act today

Now dig deeper into what you have received. What can you do to apply what God has told you ? Write down the concrete actions you can take.

Honor the Lord

Our route for the day comes to an end. Let us pray together to honor our God.

"Thank you Lord for you are a model of love to me. Yours be the kingdom, the power and the glory, amen !"
