Balance our accounts with our past
Searching the Scriptures
Hunt this maid and her son. Genesis 21.10.
Ishmael arises from the fact that Abraham tried in his own strength to go faster than God's plan. It was well intentioned, but very unwelcome. Perhaps you made an attempt of this kind...
We all have an "Ishmael", a good idea that did not come from God. It can complicate your life. So God said to Abraham, "Cast out this handmaid and her son." In other words : "It's time to clear up your past and clean up. This situation is holding you back and, unless it is resolved, you cannot advance towards your destiny. Cast it out of your life and do not look back !"
Occasionally, the miracle embodied by Isaac and the bewilderment represented by Ishmael may coexist for a while under your roof. Everything can go well in one area of your life, but very badly in another. So one day God said to you : "Because of the plan I have planned for you, you have to strike this out of your life." Not easy at all. It is difficult to give up what the flesh desires or cherishes. But there are only two options : let your emotions guide you and miss the best of God or say : "I love God more than that."
If you are willing to give up something because you prefer God, you make what is called a "sacrifice of praise," as Hebrews 13:15 says. And if you offer it as a sacrifice to God, you are able to experience a new level of His blessing.
Listen to the voice of God
Let’s take the time to listen to what God means. Ask God if there is any area of your life that needs to be settled in order to fully enter into the plan He has designed for you.
Praying is easy. Talk to God as you would your closest friend. God loves you and he can hear everything. Here is an example of a prayer : "Lord, I choose to let go and renounce what you want me to give up today. I do it out of love and obedience to you. For you know better than I do what I do. which is good for me."
Praise God
To praise God is to show him our gratitude. What are your subjects of recognition today ? Take a moment to thank the Lord for this.
Act today
Now dig deeper into what you have received. What can you do to apply what God has told you ? Write down the concrete actions you can take.
Honor the Lord
Our route for the day ends. Let us pray together to honor our God.
"Lord, my sacrifice of praise today is this 'Ishmael' whom I fully renounce. Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. So be it !"
