Be like a palm tree

“The righteous grow like a palm tree, they grow like the Cedar of Lebanon.” Psalm 92. 13

If you need encouragement, consider the palm tree !

1- You can attack its trunk without managing to kill it. Indeed, for the majority of trees, the sap that is just under the bark carries all the nutrients necessary for their survival : if you cut a strip of bark around their trunk, all the trees die, except the palm tree. Even without bark, it continues to live and grow, because its sap flows in its heart. Imitate it ! Do not let the trivial circumstances of life derail you from your destiny, do not think in the short term, but consider the distant future. Keep your eyes fixed on the promises God has made to you, even if they are slow to come true.

2- The wind can bend it in two without succeeding in breaking its trunk. The fiercest hurricanes knock down most trees, but not the palm. It withstands the strongest winds, even if its fins come to touch the ground. After the passage of the storm, it recovers, more solid than ever. You were created to be able to bow down in the storms of life, without being broken. God has promised that He will “strengthen you in every way with His glorious power to be always and with joy patient and patient” (Colossians 1:11). As you learn to persevere despite difficulties, you discover how willing God is to entrust you with more responsibility and blessings.

3- The depth of its roots exceeds the height of its trunk. While the majority of trees only sink a few meters, at most, under the ground, the roots of the palm tree are able to go very deep to seek the water it needs. David wrote : “As a deer longs for streams, so my soul longs for You, O God !” (Psalm 42.2). God's plan is for you to put down deep roots, never be uprooted by trials, and bear fruit never to be swept away by storms. If you face a particularly difficult crisis, do not exclaim : “Why, O my God, did You permit this ?” but rather : “What do You want me to learn through these difficulties ?” Then trust Him and rise up after the storm stronger than before !
