"Better is the hollow of the filled hand, and rest, than both hands full, with the work and pursuit of the wind." Ecclesiastes 4: 6
In our civilization of consumption, everyone is eager to possess more ; We are always in danger of being contaminated by the fever of "always more" that rages !
It is not a long time since our first parents, who could take full advantage of all the fruits of the Garden of Eden, also wanted to taste the only one they should not eat. The serpent had already found the key to seduction; he had made the virtues of the possession of this forbidden fruit shine before them. It's the same hook that advertisers use today.
Let us not forget that the devil always wants to get us out of the dependence of God by stirring up our natural lusts. It drives us to compare ourselves to those who have more than us, which creates dissatisfaction in us.
Let us ask the Lord to help us look to those who are less privileged than us materially ! This will help us to be satisfied and grateful. They are certainly many of our brothers and sisters or our neighbors who would consider themselves satisfied if they benefited from our resources and our health.
What a change when, with the help of God, we consider life in this light ! The elements of our comfort become God's gifts and we discover many reasons for gratitude and thanksgiving.
The slogans of our civilization of consumption and its advertising slogans then lose their impact. Our values and priorities change. We taste the "rest" inside the "filled" and we will find time to help others.
This true satisfaction, only Jesus Christ gives it. It is not necessary to run the world to find it, nor to spend its money to acquire it : "God will fill all our needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus" (Phil 4:19).
It has been said: We are rich only in what death can not take away !
