Between us and the sky

He (Jacob) had a dream : a ladder leaned on the ground and its top reached the sky ; angels of God were going up and down that ladder. Genesis 28.12

Mobile phones and their applications have proliferated in recent years. They are supposed to connect human beings with each other. However, there have never been so many separations in couples, nor so many people suffering from loneliness. Obviously, real communication would have become difficult...

If we find it so difficult to dialogue with each other, it may also be because we have lost the relationship with our Creator. Look at Jacob's situation. He is on the run. He deceived his father and brother (Genesis 27:35). And the latter wants revenge... On the way, Jacob stops for the night and falls asleep, his head resting on a rock. He thinks he is alone. But, in a dream, God speaks to him from the top of a ladder : Behold, I am with you (Genesis 28:15).

This ladder makes us think of the cross where Jesus connects us to the heavenly Father by the sacrifice of his life for our sins. Jesus himself said : You will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man (John 1:51).

Through Jesus, we can be connected to God. We can communicate with him every day, without fear. He wants to be with us... And if he is with us, he will also change our relationships with others !
