By love !

Ezekiel 36.26 – I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you ; I will take the heart of stone out of your body and give you a heart of flesh.

One day, a preacher testified that he was a Christian, married, and that a young woman from his job had offered him an affair. He had refused, saying : “I am married and I am a Christian, I cannot ! ". A colleague had mocked him saying : “With your religion, you are not free !".

We thought to ourselves: was this ultimately the right answer ? A response like : “I am very much in love with my wife and I don't want to do anything to hurt her. Your proposal does not interest me at all !", would probably have been more adequate. Do you see where we are coming from ?

When God gives us a new heart and a new spirit, we are fully animated by love. Abstaining from certain things is not a constraint but a completely free decision because in this love we do not want to do anything that displeases the Lord, because we are deeply in love with Him.

To understand and experience this is to understand all the difference between law and grace. Obeying the principle of the Law will always lead us into a bad motivation : I don't do things because I'm afraid of God or because I want to keep my prestige... Respecting God and His Word because we love Him with all our heart, this is what fills Him with joy, realizing our own unworthiness to be loved as He has loved us.

If one day a non-Christian asks you why you don't do such and such a thing that has become common in today's world, may your love for God make you simply say : "The Lord has loved me so much and I love Him so much that I I freely decided not to do anything more that would cause Him pain”.
