"By the grace of God", a 7 year old boy swims for an hour and saves the lives of his sister and his father

“I told them both that I love them because I wasn't sure what was going to happen. I tried to stay with her as long as I could… I got exhausted and she pulled away from me."

Chase Poust is only 7 years old, but he is now a hero in Florida, and even beyond the borders when you look at the international press. It must be said that the little boy has just saved his sister Abigail, 4, and his father Steven, by swimming for an hour in the current of the Saint Johns River.

The Poust family left for the river on May 28th. While the dad is fishing, the children swim around the boat. Abigail, who has a life jacket, is going to be carried away by a strong current, and suddenly. Her brother then decides to go and rescue her.

“The current was so strong that my sister let go. So I let go of the boat and grabbed her, and then I was carried away."

As Abigail continues to be carried away by the current, the father jumps into the water. He told his son to swim ashore to get help.

“I told them both that I love them because I wasn't sure what was going to happen. I tried to stay with her as long as I could… I got exhausted and she pulled away from me."

Chase's mission is complex. He alternates between swimming times and times when he lets himself float on his back to rest. The father explains that “the current was going against the boat and the shore, so it was very difficult to swim that way”.

But after an hour of struggle, the little boy reaches the shore and runs to the nearest house. Thanks to this heroic gesture, Steven and Abigail were saved.

The father, Steven, is proud of his "little man" and gives glory to God.

"We are here. By the grace of God, we are here. Little man... he got ashore and got some help, and that's what saved our lives."
