Change of program !
“I have also seen under the sun that the race is not for the agile, nor war for the valiant, nor bread for the wise, nor wealth for the intelligent, nor favor for the learned ; for everything depends for them on time and circumstances.” Ecclesiastes 9. 11
Life is full of surprises... Each generation must face the challenges of their generation. No one is spared. Challenges are often experienced as trials, yet the Bible teaches us what hope is ours : Jesus promised to be with us every day (Matthew 28:20). And the Bible is given to us to teach us in our walk down here (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Faced with unforeseen situations ; pandemic, war, runaway inflation, job loss, climate change... etc, what to do when we find ourselves in impossible circumstances ? Everyone goes through both pleasant and difficult circumstances, but what makes the difference is our reaction to them. God is sovereign and can intervene on behalf of His children if they turn to Him ; in the book of Samuel we find the account of a battle which was far from being won in advance between the troops of Israel led by Joab and an enemy coalition. Because the commander of David's armies implements a two-pronged battle strategy and places his trust in God, he emerges victorious. This is what he said to his brother, second in command : “Be firm, and let us show courage for our people and for the cities of our God, and let the Lord do what seems good to him !” (2 Samuel 10. 9-12). After the victory he does not seek to besiege the city and does not try to seize it but he returns to Jerusalem recognizing that it was no longer the good season to besiege a city because winter was approaching. We must also recognize the seasons we go through in order to do the right thing. Sometimes we have to dare to change, make different choices, adopt another strategy and be bold, but other times we have to be patient and wait. With God's help take the time to reflect, plan, make good choices and eventually act differently ! For it is God “who changes times and circumstances... who gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the understanding” (Daniel 2:21).
