So it was true, what I learned in my country about your situation and your wisdom! I didn't believe it until I came and saw it with my own eyes. 1 Kings 10.6, 7
My ear had heard of you, but now my eye has seen you. Job 42. 5
Come and see
- A queen has heard of the glory and wisdom of King Solomon in her country, the image of Jesus, the King of glory (Psalm 24: 8-10). But she did not want to believe the extraordinary stories that were told to her. She decides to go see Solomon herself. She leaves amazed, affirming that she had not been told half of the reality: Solomon surpasses everything she had imagined !
- Job, the patriarch, believed in God. But he goes through great trials which lead him to have false ideas about God. At the end of the book, God reveals himself to Job through the splendors of creation. Job also concludes : I had heard of you, but now I have seen you. And he recognizes the infinite greatness of God...
- Philippe met Jesus, he shares his discovery with Nathanaël, who lives in the same village as him. He announces to her that he has found the long awaited Messiah. Nathanaël is very skeptical, but Philip insists : "Come and see" (John 1. 46). Nathanaël lets himself be convinced, he goes to see Jesus, to see for himself. He immediately recognized in Jesus the Son of God, the King of Israel (John 1. 49).
Have you heard of Jesus from others, and are you skeptical, like the queen of Sheba, or Nathanael ? Do you have misconceptions about God, like Job ? So come and see for yourselves. For that, read the Gospels, pray to him to make himself known to such as he really is. He will convince you ! You too will see that he surpasses everything you have heard about him !
