Control your anger

“A soft answer calms fury, while a harsh word increases anger.” Proverbs 15.1

Life today favors expressions of anger. We work long hours, our journeys from home to work take a long time, the long queues and the hours wasted waiting for an employee of any administration to answer our phone call, so many reasons for us feel frustrated and let our bitterness burst. How do you react in such circumstances ? Are you taking your pain patiently ? Do you take advantage of these moments to focus your mind on other topics and escape stress ? Anger is often the first expression of our emotions. If you feel unable to control your anger, the first thing to do is to admit that you have a problem ! Your life shouldn't be controlled by mood swings or name calling to accompany your frustration. Words hurt and often the hurt is incurable. James warns us that our tongue can be the source of much suffering : “From the same mouth come blessing and curse. My brothers and sisters, this must not be the case” (James 3. 10). Then he adds, regarding anger : “So then, my beloved brothers and sisters, let everyone be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to be angry, for the anger of man does not accomplish not the righteousness of God” (James 1:19-20). After recognizing that you are quick to lose your temper, approach God in prayer and ask Him to fill you with His peace. Every day pray to Him to help you walk serenely by His side. Remember that you can't change other people (when they misbehave and irritate you) or circumstances in your life (like traffic jams or bad weather). God commands us to love and forgive, which is the best way to no longer succumb to anger !
