Conversation on faith

Tuesday January 4, 2022

God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, so that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3.16

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life ; whoever does not believe in the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him. John 3.36

Conversation on faith

- You are very lucky, you, to have faith! We have it or we don't. I don't have it, that's all.

- Faith is however a very widespread attitude... In reality without any form of faith, life would be impossible.

- But not at all ! I know a huge number of unbelieving people who live very well.

- Yes, they think that faith in God is not for them, but they have faith in their doctor who prescribes drugs, faith in the engineers who designed the braking system of their vehicle, faith in the producer of the item that they put in their cart... We always have faith in someone or something, ultimately !

- Oh, that's trust, rather than faith. We have to trust a minimum, otherwise, we would no longer live !

- Precisely ! God simply asks us to place our trust in him for the salvation of our soul. He offers a simple way for us to have access to his presence : to believe that the death of his Son Jesus Christ erases our faults. He asks for full support for the diagnosis he makes on the state of each human being : a sinner. He asks for our confidence in the means he has chosen to save us. This conviction that we can trust him is not given at birth, we do not inherit it : we accept or we refuse the proposal. Faith in his work is offered to everyone. It won't commit you to a religion, if that's what you're afraid of. It will put you in touch with God. It is very different.
