Cree of children

"Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple ... When the chief priests and scribes saw the extraordinary things that Jesus had done and the children crying in the temple : Hosanna to the Son of God David, they were indignant and said to him : Do you hear what they say ? But Jesus said to them ... By the mouth of little children and infants, you have established your praise." Matthew 21:12, 15, 16

Jesus has just arrived in Jerusalem for his last week on earth. This is the moment of the great meeting of Easter and the crowds converge towards Jerusalem. It is in this context that Jesus enters the city. His rise in the capital is triumphant. The crowds, with the children, acclaim : "Hosanna to the Son of David !" (Matt. 21: 9). Like every pious Jew, he goes to the temple; But he must put it in order : "My house will be called a house of prayer; But ye have made it a cave of thieves "(Matt. 21:13).

It is easy to imagine this meeting of Jesus with the leaders of the people who are preparing the great feast for the sake of respecting the official forms of worship. We understand their astonishment and their annoyance at this disturbing character. His remarks highlight behavior and trafficking that can not be condemned outside the temple. Indeed, merchants make the animals to be sacrificed very expensive. Others change the currencies of the faithful who have to pay the temple tax. All this causes a real traffic that Jesus denounces with vehemence. The chief priests and the scribes are the witnesses of the miracles which the Lord accomplishes even in the court of the temple. Despite this, they deliberately refuse to recognize Jesus as the Messiah.

In contrast, the children, in their innocent confidence, cry out in honor of the Son of David. Religious leaders should have praised Christ, but they are too proud of their importance. Thus, children, deprived of all evil thought and hatred, render praise to the Lord. He himself takes up their defense and, through the Scriptures, shows to those proud that the praise of these children is inspired by God. He thus receives from the youngest people the homage which the elders of the people ought to have rendered him !

The spiritual perception of children is greater than we imagine ! Even if they sometimes speak "out of the ordinary", they glorify the Lord's name in a unique way.
