Dangerous mockery

In the last days will come mockers full of mockery. 2 Peter 3.3

The Lord does not delay in fulfilling the promise, as some think ; on the contrary, he shows patience with us, wanting that none should perish but that all come to repentance. 2 Peter 3. 9

Dangerous mockery

On a death notice in the regional newspaper, I read : "It does not happen to others, Me (first name and last name), I left you on... Goodbye, death is a joke, it is better to laugh about it".

Comedians of all kinds abound. In a desperate world, would laughter be therapy ? The Bible warns us that "Even in the midst of laughter the heart may be in sorrow, and joy may end in sorrow" (Proverbs 14. 13). And can we laugh at everything ? Can death, "king of terrors" be mocked ? It is dangerous, because God warns us that after death there is judgment (Hebrews 9:27), and that we do not mock God (Galatians 6: 7). So that we are not condemned, he invites us to know him and to believe him. He "desires that all men be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth" (1 Timothy 2. 4). The Bible shows us that we are guilty before him. We all need to be delivered from this guilt to be reconciled to God. Jesus "gave himself for us in order to redeem us from all sins" (Titus 2:14). If we believe in Jesus, death will bring us into paradise with him. If we refuse to believe in him, death will introduce us to the place where torments, despair and remorse will be the final part of the unbeliever. There will be no more room for jokes.

My relationship with God today determines my eternal future. Jesus tells us : "Change your attitude and believe in the good news" (Mark 1:15).
