Dangerous swimming
During our vacation at the ocean, barely arrived, we go to the nearest beach, a pretty sandy beach bordered by rocks. The children rush into the water and a few minutes later Louise comes out with a deep cut in her ankle. We hastily leave the beach for emergencies, and a sign jumps out at us : "Dangerous swimming with sharp rocks". We had read it without paying attention : it seemed exaggerated to us ! This part of the beach was covered with sand, no rocks were visible at high tide and several people were swimming there.
After a few stitches without consequences for the rest of the holidays, we were led to think : if we had been more attentive and had taken into account this warning installed by people who knew the place perfectly, we could have avoided this accident.
There is a clear parallel with our attitude to the warnings, counsels, and cautions that God gives believers in the Bible for their daily lives. They are not always taken into account, even though they are there precisely to save us from difficulties and suffering. Not reading the Bible is putting our moral and spiritual life in great danger. Let us read it counting on our God, who knows the dire dangers to which we are exposed. Let us fully trust Him by obeying Him, without overestimating our strengths and skills, and without allowing ourselves to be influenced by others.
