Disgust or affection ?
Job 1.5 - ... He would get up early the next day and offer God a complete sacrifice for each of them, because he said to himself : "My sons may have made a mistake, they may have offended God in thought.". This is how Job acted every time (BFC).
What a beautiful parental attitude Job had. He did not stay on the offended feeling that his children did not follow the path of his faith, but he brought to God a sincere plea for each of them. His fatherly love enabled him to overcome disappointment, becoming a mediator, an intercessor for their own good.
Let's face it, generational conflicts exist even in Christian families. More than one servant of God has seen his children “go wrong”, leaving many wounds. Each case is particular, whether the education is very strict or downright "cool", children reject the God of their parents. We can only do our best by counting on the grace of God, but that is not my point.
My point is: if one of my children openly offends God, how will I react ? If what he does is extremely detestable, the fact remains that God loves him. What is going to be stronger in my inner being : disgust or affection ? Certainly God would like us to adopt Job's attitude and enter into a plea for our child. A father's or a mother's prayer is much more effective than we think. Many testimonies could come to support the fact that children left the way of perdition following the intercession of their parents.
My beloved, if we close the door to these prodigal children, the devil will have won twice over. Let’s move past the suffering this causes, even though we are physically separated from them, and continue to pray for their redemption. Perhaps one day they will come home saying : "I have sinned against heaven and against you..." (Luke 15.21).
Good reflection.
