Dividing line

The heart of the wise leads him to the right side, and the heart of the stupid man to the wrong side. Ecclesiastes 10.2

The Langres plateau is a watershed line. Depending on where they fall, two drops, close to each other, will end their course at opposite ends : one in the Atlantic, the other in the Mediterranean.

It is with these drops as with the foolish and the wise. They can live together for a long time. But according to the direction in which their hearts incline them, they will end their lives as far from each other as the East is from the West.

As they left Ur in Chaldea together, Abraham and his nephew Lot could not stay together. Abraham left Lot to decide which direction he would take. “If you go left, I will go right ; if you go right, I'll go left,” he told her. (Genesis 13.9) Preferring the fertile plains around Sodom, Lot left the desert plateaus to Abraham to graze his flocks.

Lot thought he made the right choice, but he was wrong. Years later, he will reap the harmful consequences of his option, and Abraham those of his intelligent choice.

Yes ! It is from the heart that emanate the orientations that decide our destiny. Judas, who betrayed Jesus, missed out on eternal life. Yet he had enjoyed the same privilege as the other apostles. In the end, he finds himself as distant from them as the worst godless.
